UPDATE- March 20, 2020 NEW CLOSED DOOR POLICY Hello friends of Clark Animal Hospital, Following the recommendations of Dr. Scott Weese, infectious disease specialist at the Ontario Veterinary College: We are implementing further protocols in order to keep our clients and our team safe and healthy, and continue to provide care to the four-legged members of our families. We are closing the waiting room. We will admit and discharge patients directly from vehicles. - Please call us from your vehicle upon arrival. If you do not have a mobile phone, please knock on the door. - For appointments: We will come get your pet from your vehicle. We will converse over the phone to address your questions and concerns and discuss our recommendations and plans. - For surgeries: We will admit and discharge surgery patients directly from your vehicle. - For pet food, supplies or medication, we will deliver the product to your vehicle. -No walk-ins. Please call ahead so we can have pet food, supplies or medications ready for you upon arrival. -We will only accept electronic payments NO CASH. We encourage clients to carry their own pens. -We will continue to screen owners before their appointments to determine the risk of them carrying COVID-19. - We will continue to be vigilant with disinfection and social distancing protocols. We are doing our best to keep our staff, clients and patients safe. These protocols are in place to ensure our ability to continue to provide care for our patients during this challenging time. Clark Animal Hospital Response to Coronavirus Situation - March 17, 2020 At Clark Animal Hospital, our priority is to ensure your pets health and that our clients and team members safety is top of mind during this uncertain time. Effective immediately: -We ask that only 1 person accompany each pet at each appointment. - We will be limiting the number of appointments available to reduce the number of people in hospital at one time. - We p lease ask that no more than 2 people are in the waiting room at one time. We will try to move patients into exam rooms as quickly as possible, we will have a sign in sheet available and may have clients wait in their vehicle. A staff member will get you when ready. - Please be considerate and safe. If you are feeling unwell please find someone who can accompany your pet or reschedule your appointment if necessary. You can contact us now at: info@clarkanimalhospital.com We are pleased to announce that we will no longer be performing elective declaw procedures in cats! ​ ​The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) has recently released a position statement that they oppose elective and non-therapeutic Partial Digital Amputation (PDA), commonly known as declawing or onychectomy, of domestic cats. Scratching is a normal behavior in cats but here are some tips to discourage unwanted scratching: feline pheromone sprays to redirect the cat to more desirable scratching materials; double-sided tape to deter cats from scratching the edges of furniture; regular nail trimming (recommended every two weeks); artificial nail covers such as Soft Paws environmental enrichment and appropriate daily play to decrease feline aggression; avoidance of hand/foot play which can lead the cat to see these human parts as prey; the application of basic principles of reinforcement of desirable behaviour, including the use of catnip, treats, and verbal praise.
